British Stars and Their Favourite Cars

Let’s be honest – we Brits like to think we have a certain air of sophistication and good taste that goes above and beyond our overseas counterparts. The very spirit of all things British is one of elegance and pomp, which technically should be reflected in the way we live our lives and the cars we buy.

Of course, this is far from a universal rule as you only need to look at the bright pink Bentley Continental GT made famous by Jordan to realise we’re not as a nation quite as unified in our understated ways as we’d like to think. That being said though, it’s only over the more deplorable car choices that make the headlines and capture the attention of the paps, so what about the rest of the British A-List clientele?

Do they like to go a bit OTT with their car choices, or are they more inclined to follow a so-called ‘British’ buying mantra?

The Stars and Their Cars

If there’s one couple you’d expect to go bold and brash with their car choice, it’s of course David and Victoria Beckham. But no, as even over in the US they’re more often than not seen in their Jaguar XJ Supersport, which may command a price tag of about £90,000 but is still a far cry from a bright pink supercar.

Jeremy Clarkson

Once again, perhaps the most likely candidate in the whole of the UK to own and drive a frankly ridiculous primary car would be Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson. But once again this isn’t the case and while he does indeed own his fair share of sporty numbers, his everyday runaround is a Range Rover.

James May

Still on the Top Gear theme, James May doesn’t in any way come across as a brash car driver, though could well be pictured at the wheel of something super-expensive and regal. Instead though, he likes nothing more than hitting the city streets in his Fiat Panda – a car he openly admits being in love with.

Sara Cox

TV and radio’s Sara Cox is the perfect example of a female driver looking cool as hell in a car that might in many cases make a male driver look a bit of a twit. She’s gone for the Audi RS4, which joints the ranks of the Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo as a car that’s cool only in the hands of women and professional sports drivers.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Star of the Tudors, Jonathan Rhys Meyers managed to get hold of a lovely Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid that hasn’t yet made its way to the UK market. Still, he did have to spend more than $90,000 on it.

Kate Moss

The best of British? Perhaps, but whichever way you look at it there’s something picture-postcard perfect about seeing a fur-clad Kate Moss stepping into or out of her classic Rolls-Royce. Some might argue that the use of fur goes against anything that’s truly modern British, but still…a pretty picture.
